Waiting and Watching

Can you believe January is gone already? My father once tried to explain to me some weird, advanced scientific explanation about time, and how time actually does move faster when you get older, but mostly I just waited for him to be done so I could ask if I might have some of his sweet potato fries.

And speaking of fries, you know my progress a la mode thingamajig at the side of this blog? And I am just too lazy to go back and put the little accent mark over the "a la" part, so you'll just have to relax. I measured myself today, and the only thing that got smaller were my bosoms.

Now if that isn't depressing. And also, my hips grew an inch. Oh, and supposedly I lost half an inch in my waist, which absolutely cannot be true, because my midsection is the last to go when I lose weight, and the first thing to puff right up when I gain weight.

This whole thing leads to me believe I measured badly last time. And that I have not changed my shape one iota this month. Well, except for the Olive Oyl lack of breasts thing.

So, I joined Weight Watchers today. I know I said losing weight wasn't really the goal this year. But a few years ago I joined Weight Watchers on line with my friend, and I was impressed with how you can eat what you want, but if you get an extra value meal at McDonald's you cannot eat anything else all day. But vegetable soup? You can eat that till it comes out your ear holes.

In other words, it encourages healthy eating without being really restrictive. And all you do is go online and tell the computer what you ate, and after it's done pointing at you and guffawing, it tells you how many points you racked up during that eating-Parmesan-cheese-out-of-a-can-with-a-spoon extravaganza.

I lost ten pounds on Weight Watchers last time, but more important, I remember thinking, "Geez, I FEEL better."

The reason I ended up going off it was because I got my job, as opposed to being a freelancer, and it was easier to eat the fried food in the restaurant in our building than to bring a turkey sandwich in. Goodbye, ten-pound weight loss.

So, here I am again. So far today I have had 3.5 points (Life cereal and coffee. If you drink too much coffee, you get points for it. I forget why. I mean, I drink my coffee black, like my moods, but if you have 48 cups, they start counting it against you).

Anyway, this means I am not going to meditate during the month of February. I will take that up in March. This is going to be a big enough change. Oh, and if anyone else is on Weight Watchers online, I have a little profile on there and Ativans or whatever those little icons are called that you put up to tell about yourself. Mine are books, yoga and S&M.

Okay, there is totally not an S&M icon on Weight Watchers. Maybe on Welt Watchers…

  1. WW is good. However, I will never give them any more of my money since they made me start paying again after I met goal and then gained tons of weight (90# in 3 mos! Totally not diet related!) due to massive doses of steroids for a medical condition where I almost died. AND I had a letter from my doctor. So… I figured Florine was all about the benjamins, not about my health. BUT… it did work when I was on it. Good luck!

    Good for you. Although from the look of your photos I don’t know why you need to loose weight. You look great! (still love those silver shoes).
    One of my friends did WW in the year leading up to her wedding. In High School she was always the ‘fat’ girl and she was over it. She lost 65kg and ended up weighing as much as she lost. We were SO proud of her. She looks AMAZING and you can just imagine how happy her husband was! It’s a great system.
    When I was little my grandma knew the points for EVERYTHING. Used to crack me up.

  3. So what kind of diet makes you lose in the boobs? Everytime i try to lose weight I just can’t get my boobs smaller (40DD) and im 5’3″ in size 10 jeans.

  5. I did WW after I had my first 4 1/2 years ago and I really liked it. I have a friend that’s doing the online WW only and she really likes it. I really need to get back into it because my eating habits are terrible.

  6. I’m doing WW too. I go to meetings and use the online service to tweak recipes and figure out points for foods that I cook. I track my daily points in a written journal. We’re not to do “personal business” online while at work, so entering points as I go through the day is not an option. When I get home, I tend to get busy with the kids, dinner and all the fun and forget until bedtime.

  7. Good for you! I think Weight Watchers is an excellant program. I have never been on it myself, but if I had a dollar for all my friends that have been on that system I would be very, very rich. There was a time in my life when I knew how many points I was eating in a day just because my group of gals were all on WW together. I loved it! Because then we could go out to eat at RESTAURANTS together! Because I like eating out with my gals! OK, I am rambling, but I am glad you signed up!

  9. I love WW. I lost 20 pounds several years ago… but I never actually joined because someone close to me is a leader and snuck me the goods. One of my ‘things I want to do before I turn 40’ is to become a real live, lifetime member… so I guess I’ll need to do that this year, since I’m about 2 weeks from turning 39.
    It’s amazing how good you feel, isn’t it? It really is a smart plan – that whole eating healthily thing… (is it healthy or healthily? I’ve never gotten that down.)

  10. Congrats on joining WW! I have thought about it off and on, and know it can be successful, but…I’ve never committed.
    Personally, I would not begrudge a bit of shrinkage on top, but that’s just me.
    Found you through, drum roll…dcrmom! I followed some of your spending hiatus and now I’m sure I’ll enjoy this journey with you too. You are a true hoot!

  11. Good on ya June! WW is the way to go .. not a diet .. a change of lifestyle. Did you meditate over a cup of coffee to come to the decision to go and join WW?
    I am currently trying .. TRYING .. to cut my coffee intake back to 2 cups a day. I also drink my coffee hot strong and black .. just like I like my men .. did I just say that out aloud?

  12. Good for you–joining WW. It’s a good plan and it will help you eat better. Do they encourage you to drink water? I’m not that crazy about water, I REALLY love iced tea (southern table wine), but when I drink it I can’t sleep at night, so I’m back to water. I just add a little lemon and a tad of sweetener to the water so it goes down better. Don’t feel bad the first thing I lost is my bust as well.
