It's not "kindeegarden." The word is kindergarten. Why did people even start thinking it was kindeegarden in the first place? Some people even say "kinneegarden," as the man who READS THE NEWS on my morning radio show did today. You can imagine the terse email shot off by yours truly.

Ahhhh, as a former KindERgarten teacher…I so heart this post. :o)
Just found your blog, and love it! You’re hilarious and just turned my frown upside down on a weekend away with my in-laws that’s leaving me needing ANOTHER weekend to actually “get away”, LOL!
Happy weekend, lady!

Lately, what drives me nuts is when I hear people say Fridee or Mondee.
“Are you going to the market on Saturdee?”
That’s really funny about Mr. Fabris. 🙂

Ooh, pick me! pick me! I had a friend that changed the pronunciation of his last name Fabris – he insisted people say it like Fabree, instead of, you know, Fabris. So his secretary gets a call one day and the caller says “I’d like to talk to Mr. Fabris” and the secretary said “It is Mr. Fabree. Who shall I say is calling?” and the caller replied “His father.”
Forgive me. I think I had too much coffee today.

I am German, and yes, Kinder means children and garten means Garden, not holding pen, but as I type this I realize that I may have just gotten the joke. Sorry, I am just too tired today.

I love when people say kindeegarden or better yet kineegarten. I also get a kick out of bretfuss instead of breakfast. I really love it when an adult says liberry, all of a sudden i feel like i’m conversing with five year old. Why do people drop the first r out of library? People do it all the time on tv.
I love to hear people murder the english language. It tickles me inside, i just try not to laugh on the outside.

Thank you from an actual kindergarten teacher. I am trying to figure out how to send a link to your post to our school district’s math coordinator anonymously. She holds a doctoral degree, but says “you kindeegarden teachers are just so cute” every time we see her at a meeting. Grrr.

“Kindergarden” drives me batty – kindeegarden would have been the coup de grace.

Just a little trivia lesson for bell 2 posts above me: Kindergarten is a German word. Kinder = children and garten = holding pen, or something along those lines. 🙂
Lately, I have been noticing people who say the word “accept” like this: ass-sept. Have you heard this? That’s really annoying.

Ok, this has nothing to do with kindeegarten but does have to do with a newscaster. Our local station had an announcer that said ” … pharts of the potographs … no, wait, I’m sorry, I meant PHARTS of the POtographs … ” before becoming consumed with laughter. She was never seen again. Hee hee hee!

I’m glad you brought this up. I have given this word more thought than it deserves. I have often wondered why it is “garten” with a T instead of “garden” with a D like I always thought it was before I started, you know, trying to spell things correctly?

My beloved Grandma (Saginaw Grandma) refers to herself as Gramma. That’s how she spells it!
And, she says kinnergarden and libarry.
Makes me cuckoo!!
At least she says my name correctly. Here in lovely MA, I’m called Liser by plenty of folks.

I have a friend who works at the “liberry”- I believe part of being hired should be the requirement that you actually call your place of employment by it’s correct name-
I cannot emphasis how strongly I feel about this- in fact, I think I feel a terse e-mail coming on………..

We have a local news woman on channel 9, who cannot for the life of her say ‘kindergarten’ or ‘ninety’ (she says niney) correctly. I had to stop watching that station.

Nope, can’t imagine it. You simply have to post the email! 😉

As long as it was terse, and not wordy. There’s nothing worse than a wordy corrective email.
