Good evening. So nice of you to join us.

Marvin, who was delighted with the comments yesterday about his big…hands, is getting a giant charge out of his own self. He keeps putting that each day is his birthday on Facebook. There is someplace you can go and plug in your birthday on there, and it automatically alerts your friends. He is giggling over his birthday wishes on his wall today, and is going to keep saying it's his birthday until someone gets mad and/or figures it out.

No, I have no idea why no one likes Marvin. What do you mean?

And what I'd like to know is, what is going to happen in November when it's really his birthday? He will be the Facebook boy who cried birthday. And his wall will have crickets.

In the meantime, my stupid stupid stupid head hurts. I went to bed with a migraine and didn't take anything for it, thinking it'd go away while I slept, bit then I woke up today and GUESS WHAT IS STILL HERE. Poking me in the head with its sharp sharp fangs. Hate.

The good news is that I got a new badge for my ID card at work.

Funbadge

You see that it's not just a badge, it's a FUN badge. So all day long at work Ima have fun. How much do you like me for saying "Ima"? Could someone remind me I'm a 45-year-old white girl?

My old badge, which I just bought three months ago, had Hello Kitty on it, with a leopard background and pink, dark pink and copper-colored gems all around it. Again, could someone alert me to my age? Which happens to be 45?

The point is, one by one the gems fell off and it already looks raggedy. So I got this gem-free one above, with its nod to multicolored Eiffel Tower. Did you know the Eiffel Tower had blue and green gingham on it? Humph. Shows what you know.

I have no idea why my tastes are so, you know, fussy. When I was a kid, I loved the beginning of Family Affair because of the inexplicable beginning, with the multi-colored gems floating around. The beginning of that show had nothing to do with the show. What did gems have to do with Uncle Bill? Was Mr. French secretly a drag queen?

Family Affair was a really good show. I say this because Marvin Netflixed episodes recently and I was obSESSed. Uncle Bill was hot. And he had terrible taste in women. It was like Mary Tyler Moore's dates. Not one was notable.

Okay, I had better get ready for work with my screaming migraine. If I didn't go to work every time my head hurt I'd miss about one day a week.

Did I mention hate? Did I mention Ima hate?

P.S. Just noticed a comment from Furry Godmother from yesterday. She sent me this link: http://www.etsy.com/listing/52629178/pop-tart-cell-phonecamera-case. Just so you know, if I don't get this I will die. DIE. of sadness. This is a NEED versus WANT purchase.

  1. I loved Family Affair as well. (I think my brother wanted to be Jody.) Mr. French was so exotic. Cissy was annoying. And Buffy was a little retarded… Remember the episode where Buffy ran away to live inthe basement, leaving a note that she went to Switzerland?
But I loved the show because of Uncle Bill.

  2. ME TOO! The migraine, I mean. Last night it was killing me. I took one of my new medicines – imitrex…and it went away. But guess what is knock-knock-knocking behind my eyeballs again and wants to come back? Ugh. I hate migraines.
Also, I LOVED Family Affair. Why was TV so much better back in the good ol’ days?
Hope you feel better. Hope I feel better too. Stupid migraines.

  3. For some reason I do not remember having good vibes about Family Affair. Maybe because Buffy and Jody were really quite dumb and Sissy was a stuck up b#%ch.
Mr. French definitely gave me the heebeegeebees. C’mon. Would you let him watch your kids?

  4. When I was a kid I always thought the jewels were because they were so rich, living in New York City and all. But maybe it’s a play on family jewels (wink wink, nudge nudge)?

  5. I loved Family Affair but the thing I remember most about it is that every episode made me cry. I wanted a Mrs. Beasley doll but my Mom bought me a Buffy Doll with a little Mrs. Beasley instead. I agree about Mary’s dates and I also felt that way about Ann Marie’s (Marlo Thomas)on That Girl. Her Dad was right, Donald was not good enough for her.

  6. Oh, I so loved Ann Marie’s flowery dress and matching parasol! Even as a preschooler I was into fashion. By the way, did you know Marlo Thomas is like 70 somethin’ years old? How did That Girl get to be an oldster?
I loved Family Affair. I had a talking Mrs.Beasley. I loved Uncle Bill. My hubs is Uncle Bill to a bunch of nieces now and every time they call him in their little girl voice, “Uncle Billll” I think of that show.
And I wish every day of my life for a Mr. French. Someone to take care of my house and my kids, answer my door and give me advice in a crisp English accent–that would be my dream come true! Mr French, where are you? Come to me.
Tell Big Marvin I said happy fake birthday.

  7. Haha! I thought the pop tart case would be perfect for you, June!
I did not have a Mrs. Beasly, but I did have several dresses from the Buffy and Jody line. My favorite was a red dress with a blue neck and zipper with a circular pull in the front. The patch pockets were the same navy color, studded with brass. I was a HOT seven year old in my tights and patent leather Mary Janes.
All in all, I think I was more attracted to Eddie’s father in another show…

  10. Pretty sure the opening of Family Affair was a kaleidoscope. (wow, I didn’t look up the spelling and got it right! yay me!) Remember those things? Cardboard tube with multicolored “jewels” inside. We were easily amused when we were kids. No fancy video games for us. Well, except for Pong. Woohoo!
I think the headaches are weather related even though we don’t live anywhere near each other.

  11. Boy you guys are all taking me on a trip down memory lane…Family Affair, TCoEF (Bill Bixby was soooo cute), Love, American Style (de plane! De plane! – no, wait, that was Fantasy Island, which came on after Love Boat, my big Saturday night agenda), Brady Bunch, and what was the name of the show with David Cassidy, Shirley Jones, Danny somebodyorother who ended up in jail, based loosely on the Cowsills?
Yes, I lived for sitcoms when I was growing up…no, I didn’t have a life.

  12. I loved Family Affair….mostly for the opening credits which are hypnotizing to me, and for Uncle Bill. I was happy when all his unmemorable dates failed…because I knew he was waiting for me. Also I loved Mary Tyler Moore, but for different reasons 😉

  13. LOVE the pop-tart phone holder – definitely a must have. That Etsy can be a dangerous place to browse – too much cute stuff to die for.
I remember Family Affair but don’t think I have any feelings about it or Uncle Bill. I just remember thinking the Mrs. Beasley doll was a bit creepy.
    Hope your head feels better!

Marvin’s an idiot…but that was funny.

  17. Buffy, Buffy come back to me, why’d you have to go and OD, who will watch over Mrs. Beasley? What about Uncle Bill, Jody and Cissy?
Am I the only one who remembers that song?
I had a Mrs. Beasley doll. I loved that doll.
All those swell family shows from the late 60’s, early 70’s: Family Affair, Partridge Family, Nanny & The Professor (“Phoebe Figalillie is a silly name…”)

  18. As a fellow migraineur, I feel your pain. Here’s a link to the best book I’ve ever read about it: http://www.amazon.com/Migraine-Brain-Breakthrough-Headaches-Better/dp/1439150354/ref=sr_1_1?s=gateway&ie=UTF8&qid=1285349345&sr=8-1
I know, TOTALLY annoying Amazon link. It’s called “Migraine Brain” and it was a total wake up call for me. I, too, thought I could sleep a bad head away, but alas and alack, I rarely had the good luck. Now, when I have pain, I take my drugs and things have been so much better.
Lurv the Eiffel thingy. And you. Family Affair? Not so much. The intro reminds me of my auras…

  19. No Tracie who spells her name with an ‘ie’…Uncle Bill was waiting for me!
I should be getting my payroll done instead of this stroll down memory lane. How ’bout the Carol Burnett show? I loved that even though I didn’t quite get all the jokes. I still laughed. The Wonderful World of Disney movies…The Mod Squad…
My sister and I would come home from grade school and watch Brady Bunch, Partridge Family, Bewitched or Hogan’s Heroes, Get Smart, I Dream of Jeannie, or My Three Sons.
I can feel a visit to YouTube coming on…

Just the mere mention of the Brady Bunch makes me nauseated. I pretty much watched all the shows mentioned by tracy.
Tiffany is on to something. I think you should get Marvin a puppy for HIS today birthday! Wouldn’t that just take the cake!
