Sans June

Dogz
I do not know how I can leave all this cuteness and that need to sweep the floor, there, but Marvin and I are going on a short vacation. You know, as part of Project Save This Marriage.

We will be back Sunday night, and yes someone is coming to take care of the animals. Yeesh. Maybe I should have just let them fight it out and come home to bones and a very satisfied Francis.

See you Sunday! Go read March for book club in my absence.

  1. Speaking of fun with pet sitters,Furry and I have headed back to beautiful Richmond, VA, for her high school reunion. After spending what seemed like 4 hours on the tarmac at Hartsfield airport in Atlanta, with Furry fuming because she thought we were missing our connection (yes, it’s true; if a southerner dies and goes to Hell, he has to go through Atlanta),we got the itinerary from the luggage and discovered that we had lots of layover left. The trip to Richmond was nicely uneventful, with the single exception of the rookie fliers in front of us who enjoyed reclining their seats and leaning heavily on them so that we had them, essentially, in our laps.
We had just gotten the rental car and were headed for the hotel when Bettie Boop, our pet sitter, called to say that she had locked herself out of the house. Ah, good times. Thanks to WD 40, truly a miracle drug, we were able to talk her off the ledge and into extracting the key from the defective lock. We are now enjoying the company of Furry’s high school buds and the loveliness of the Omni Hotel. We hope all y’all have a great weekend, too.

  5. June’s Travelogue
Friday: Marvin and I are packing light for our weekend getaway. I have my toothbrush; Marvin has his cowboy pajamas and 18 Rush CDs.
Luckily, since Marvin is driving, I get to pick the music. Barry Gibb FTW! Marriage is compromise, right? When we finally arrive in Blowing Rock and check in at the Hemlock Inn, Marvin has a headache. Bummer.
No time to mope around. We have tickets for the Ghost Train ride at Tweetsie Railroad, woohoo, spooky fun! The Freaky Forest scares the pants off me, Marvin makes his move.
Saturday: Woke up late, walked around Art in the Park. Handcrafted jewelry, love! Afternoon “naps” (hee!) so that we would be fresh for the Bob Dylan concert in Winston Salem.
We did not wear our tie dyed tee shirts like the cool kids in their Woodstock originals. I looked fab in my red kitten heels. There was a distinct herbal haze in the air. I think I had a contact high, as in stoned. I was a rolling stone.
Sunday: Eleventy billion photos of Fall foliage. Marvin again driving but I take pity on him and don’t play any tunes. I decide to sing instead. Curiously, Marvin’s headache returns. Something in the air? PSTM is the best!

  6. Furry and Terra Richmond is a great place. We were in Colonial Williamsburg (45 min. drive from the Richmond Airport) the beginning of the week. It was beautiful.
I see June and Muffin are hitting all the fun places in NC this weekend.

  9. Laurie: The pics of the doggies romping around the yard are so cute! Thanks for sharing. I’m sure I speak for everyone here when I say that I’m jealous of you for getting to dogsit.
Good thing they won’t be spending more time than usual with the tea partier. 😉 I did find a real I heart Sarah doggie shirt online though. I had no idea they really existed. Too bad I can’t mail you one in time before Junie gets back.

  10. Because I know June will read all her commentors comments when she returns. I heard on the radio that they have okayed botox for migraine treatment.
Two birds with one stone, so to speak.
    No joking though.

  11. Guess which Lisa is right – Laurie – we’re all jealous that you get to spend time with the kitties and Talu and Edsel! I cannot get over his ears! So big and floppity!
I meant to comment earlier, but got an unexpected phone call from a woman who wants to hire me to do garden work! Woo HOO! So I had to go walk the properties with her. Fascinating for all of you, I’m sure!!
Have a good Saturday night. We know what Hulk’s going to be doing with all those beers!

  12. I am home. Anyone gonna come out and play? We made our annual trip to the pumpkin farm. This weekend features a civil war re-enactment and it was fascinating! They set up camp, are all in period costumes, even have Mercantiles set up for shopping!
It proved too much for my bladder which is spasming like crazy so I sent the rest of the fam off to the marching band competition while I sit here practicing lamaze which is the only thing that really helps.

  15. Today was 40% off day at the Gap stores here, so I took a mini-vacation to the mall. I also picked up beer (Real beer, this is Canada. We don’t drink that Yankee pond water up in here. Heeeee.) because while nobody is having a sleep-over, I have three kids that live here and I think that counts.
Maybe that’s Frannie’s problem. All them young whippersnappers running around and no beer. Huh.
