Pieces of Wi$dom. Do you like what I did, there?

I have to go, because I have a job interview in a few hours and they want me to bring a copy of my resume even though I sent it to them in the first place and I have NO BLANK PAPER here so now I have to go to Office Depot and I wonder how long I could make this sentence?

So because I must rush, I am picking a Pieces of Wisdom question that one of you sent in as an idea: What is the best money you ever spent? Hulk already answered that his divorce attorney was the best money he ever spent.

I said Latisse.

Because even when I am loving my kitten, I still have fabulous lashes.

Anyway, do tell. And speaking of us and our money, Faithful Reader Kate wrote in day before yesterday to say that she is young, has three jobs, and a Pug named Pickle:

6a00e54f9367fb8834015437c22d7c970c-800wi
I am pretty sure this has to be the same Pickle. A reader named Kate sent in a photo of her dogs Onyx and Pickle when I had you do the "send me a photo from your Thanksgiving" project. I mean, how many Pugs named Pickle could there be?

Anyway, Pickle was really ill and Kate had spent all the money she had on tests and the vet needed several thousand dollars to do more tests and probably surgery. She told us, and in one day got $1,700 in donations for her dog, who is in surgery with blockage as we speak. If anyone else wants to donate, her PayPal address is fabulousfindk@gmail.com.

So really, other than Latisse, the best money I ever spent was the $150 to start this blog. Typepad, with all its bad fonts and its eliminating my punctuation when I leave a comment costs $150 a year. I KNOW!

So thanks to everyone who helped Kate or is planning to. Now tell me your piece o' wisdom.

At one point, I was sort of hot, in a "she's 27 and probably a 7" kind of a way. Now I'm old and have to develop a charming personality. Guess how that's going.

  1. Tee, what a scary ordeal for the both of you! I hope his recovery is quicker than expected. Your home cooking will no doubt be a welcomed treat.
The both of you will remain in my prayers.

  4. Best money ever spent was taking my Mom to meet her family in Ireland. We had only “found” them a few years before so she was the first American family to meet them. I had always told her I’d take her & when I got a nice bonus at work it was the first thing I thought of. Such a great trip & she talks about it all the time.

  5. I am having a hard time narrowing it down. I have thought about it long and hard and I would have to say the money for my first marriage. If I had not spent that money and gotten married then I would not have been able to join the military as a single parent and met my 2nd husband many years later. Of course the next best thing that I have spent money on is a divorce from that jackass that happened 15 minutes after I signed my enlistment paperwork. See, first husbands are worth something!

  6. 1. Without a doubt, my little Honda Insight (hybrid) was a great investment – especially since I now have to drive my daughter 45 minutes EACH way to her new performing arts high school. Yikes. I LOVE getting 45 miles per gallon. This car is paying for itself.
    2. Any money we have ever spent on traveling. I don’t regret a penny of it and have wonderful memories.

  7. One more choice for best money spent was family weekends at the beach with my parents. Memories of morning walks with my dad are as dear to me as memories of my parents walking down the beach hand in hand.

  10. Wow, June, tough question. Buying my house was a pretty excellent use of money, I must say. It gave me a feeling of stability that had been lacking.
But, on the other hand, the money I spent on my (attempted) thruhike of the Appalachian Trail (and the income I didn’t earn while doing it) yielded experiences that I’m still dreaming about. I dunno, I can’t choose.
Oh, you know what? Screw that! The best money I ever spent was the $350 I borrowed to buy my first horse, the sainted Playboy. He was my best pal for years, took care of me as much as a horse can, and made fifteen years of my life so much more wonderful than they would have been without him. That was a good $350.

  12. I think it was Sgt Schultz who said that. I’m not awake enough to figure out MY answer to the question, but am awake enough to be really happy so many people said Lasik, since that is what I would spend money on. I hate being so blind- and realizing that long ago, I would not have survived survival of the fittest because I wouldn’t have seen anything.

  13. Everyone thought I was nuts for paying tuition to send my daughters to a blue ribbon public school out of our district. But we live in the ‘hood, so we scraped it together each year and it was definitely the best money ever spent. Neither one of them is on “Teen Moms”… yet.

  17. Well apparently I need to put Lasik and travel on my list for upcoming expenditures. Who knew? Actually I could have added family trips to my earlier list – those memories of the fun we had (and the times we nearly killed one another) are priceless.
Tee – best wishes for your husband, and calming thoughts for you. The only thing worse than being in your hospital yourself is having a loved one there. Take care of yourself while you take care of him.
And so happy to hear about the getting-better Pickle!

Look at how many people have had Lasik Paula! There will be no need for that dog. You won’t be flailing like a psycho. It will be a walk in the park. A piece of cake. With the blink of an eye it will be over.

I’m getting in here late, but the best money I ever spent was on the engagement ring for my wife. I created the design and had it specially made. Every woman who sees it wants to know where she got it.
She probably would’ve said “yes” even if I had given her a pull top from a Budweiser can, although she did say “no” the first time I asked.

  23. I would have to say our house. It was more or less chosen by default: it was the only house in our price range that had the amenities we needed to keep our younger son, who is autistic, safe. It wouldn’t have been my first choice if I had my way–I love unique old houses and this one was obviously built in 1968, plus there are several others just like it in our subdivision–but it’s become our forever house.

  32. LASIK!
I think the little valium pill helped my body relax but not my mind. I felt like I was going to move during the laser zapping part and mess everything up.
I think I did move just a little, but I have 20/15 vision now so they must have figured out how to deal with it.

Tee, so sorry to hear about your husband’s accident. My dad broke his back about 5 years ago so I understand what y’all are going through.
I still want to meet up at the airport in Atlanta! Please tell me what time. I was changed to a new cast yesterday and I’m hoping once I adjust to it a bit I might be able to drive by then.

  34. Tee, prayers for your family. Pickle, get better soon!
I’m one of the few people who didn’t get 20/20 vision from Lasik. I still have to wear glasses for driving / watching TV. etc. So I’m not sure if I can really say it was the best money ever spent. Especially since I now have dry eye syndrome which may have been caused by the Lasik.
Best money spent: 1)adopting my dog Chloe; 2)any time I buy a plane ticket to visit my sister and her family in Reno or my parents in Florida; 3) the ALCAT test that identified some hidden food intolerances. I thought I was on the road to irritable bowel syndrome, but it turns out that I just needed to eliminate some foods from my diet. I feel great now!
