June avoids

Sometimes I sit here at my blank screen, and so desperately want to prattle on about what's really going on, but to protect the privacy of those around me I cannot. This is one of those times.

So in the meantime I will say that I am going to the Outer Banks in two weeks! Wooooo! In case you are not from here, and most of you are not because I have the Google Analytics and I know ALL ABOUT YOU, the Outer Banks are the, you know, banks outside of North Carolina. You have to take a big pretty bridge to get over there. And it's all beachy and such. I went there with Sleeping Beauty two summers ago and Sandy and her husband this past summer. I brought Sandy to the beach! Bah!

6a00e54f9367fb8834014e8ab50dab970d-800wiAnyway, Sleeping Beauty just asked me if I want to join her, her new squishy baby and her man, who I don't know if he's squishy or not because I am not a terrible friend. Oh, and her dog Puck, who is decidedly also squishy. He is a Lab. Do you think he'll enjoy the beach at all? They're pretty indifferent to water.

Once when Talu was still a pup I took her to the lake when my mother still had a place there. And could she have been more iffy about water? She kind of…waded in with all the enthusiasm of Katy Perry in a library. Talu. Not a water dog.

I have no idea what Edsel would do around water. He has Irish setter in him. Do they like water? Anyway it's irrelevant because neither dog is coming along. They get to enjoy the Outer Daycare.

So that'll be fun. I haven't seen Sleeping Beauty since her baby shower last spring. I drove to DC for it, remember?

My gift was the green and purple bag. I got her all breastfeeding-related things, and a onsey that reads, "I suck." Adored myself.

Now I have to go. I am still overwhelmed with the freelance work, which is good, but I am working 9 or 10 hours a day and am still behind. After the 10th hour, your proofreading skillz are not what you'd call up to par.

Is anyone doing anything riveting this weekend?

At one point, I was sort of hot, in a "she's 27 and probably a 7" kind of a way. Now I'm old and have to develop a charming personality. Guess how that's going.

  1. Ugh, seems to be a sucky week for everyone I know right now. Can you take us all with you? I got this email from a friend this morning: “I want to disappear”.
Enjoy the sun and sand and squishiness! You deserve some fun.
No riveting plans here other than recovering from said suckiness. Thank God every day is new.

  2. We have been invited to a dinner party 4 houses away from here: one of the mansions along the Ohio, so I’m excited to see the inside of this pretty house. I am to bring the wine and haven’t a clue what kind to bring. Any help out there?

OH! I FINALLY figured out who you look like. That picture from yesterday? When you were in Toronto or wherever? You are the SPITTING image of Barry. The little kid in ‘Close Encounters Of The Third Kind’…

Ima go out on a limb here and say Eds would probably be terrified of the water.

  5. Oh goodness. The Outer Banks is a short little drive from my house. We have a very small beach box in the Southern Shores area. I LOVE it this time of year – the weather is perfect and it isn’t crowded. Have a wonderful time!
Viking Amy in MD, are you headed down during the middle of the month. There is some sort of race there on the 21st and then Bikers Week starting the 22nd.

What’s that you might ask? Jack Daniel’s, bonfire, firearms, ATV’s, kids, fishing, dogs, hayride.

  7. Ooooh, Outer Banks. Haven’t been there, but have read many novels that take place in the area. Sounds wonderful.

  8. The Outer Banks are so great! We have had heavenly vacations in Nags Head. If you can drag yourself away from the beach, there is a great little Xmas shop in Manteo.
There is nothing like waking up and knowing that you are going to the beach soon.
Now I am thinking of that airline commercial where the grandparents are saying “Don’t leave us with the baby!”.
    So, no prattling whatsoever?

  9. Chaperoning a Girl Scout cookie booth, going to the Golden Corral for brunch Sunday (nephew’s birthday choice), and working on that ginormous curriculum so it can go to the printer on time. Living it up, here in WS! Woo-hoo!
And I may watch some March Madness. Was SO disappointed UNC-Asheville didn’t beat Syracuse yesterday. Hulk, did you see that game?
Other wine recs – Conundrum (white), Kim Crawford sauvignon blanc, Brancott s.b., (any of the New Zealand Marlborough region s. blancs are good), and I second La Crema.

  10. No big plans here. I’m spending today with my Ex husband (It’s complicated) and then the weekend without my kid (which sucks). I have been invited to a St Patrick’s party but as I’m 37, I’m afraid the drunkenness doesn’t appeal to me as much anymore. The party attire has been stated as “green and bling” which I am going to translate to green glitter, a slutty shirt and tight jeans. Hope that turns my weekend around. Hi Hulk.

Exciting weekend in the heart of Amishland where AA/P and Stud Muffin assume the role of those grandparents in the airline commercial Letha referenced. That commercial made me laugh though. So true.

And then we get to have fun times and buy siding and such tonight. Hey Hulk.

And I finally got changed to a plastic cast and simple sling instead of a plaster stint and a body brace that took 3 people to get me in and out of at the doc’s office each week. So I’m going to take my first real bath in a month. Sponge baths no more! (Hi Hulk….)

And yay for the pooing Pickle!

  25. The new kitchen was finally installed today (after almost 2 years of waiting, thanks to my procrastinating landlady), so now my entire house is filled with construction dust. I will be spending my weekend cleaning & reorganizing. I may try to give myself a pedicure…
I’m also 37 (Hi Chelsea!), I think I’m skipping the party tomorrow as I already committed my public act of drunkenness last weekend & it was quite enough!

  26. June. You cannot drop hints of drama like that and then not follow up with details.
Anyway. We’re supposed to get hit with a doozy of a storm this weekend which will curtail activity so I’ll do my usual weekend routine of watching hockey, Supercross and F1 Racing.
My husband and son will be doing an Enduro (that’s a type of motorcycle race) someplace that’s supposed to get 4″ of snow before, during and after the race.

We’re going out to dinner at a place that is having live music tonight so that will be a nice kick-off to the weekend.

Aunt Kathy, any idea what you’ll be eating? I like something light, like a pinot grigio, if eating seafood but something darker, like a cab, if eating something beefy.

Oh, I forgot to tell my interesting plans. We’re meeting friends for a late lunch at the Trolley Stop locavore restaurant and on to the St. Patrick’s parade downtown (Keith has to photograph it) with beers after at Silky Sullivan’s. Then Sunday, early lunch at Asian Palace for eggplant (yippee!) and then doing a little show at Saddle Creek for Dogs. Yes, Zali is probably going, too.
    Geeze. I guess I’m busy.

And then I saw it was Flipper.

And you must eat at Dirty Dicks when in the Outer Banks. Not because the food is great, because really it’s a tacky chain restaurant, but because then you can get a shirt that says “I Got My Crabs At Dirty Dick’s” and we can be twins.
