June avoids

Sometimes I sit here at my blank screen, and so desperately want to prattle on about what's really going on, but to protect the privacy of those around me I cannot. This is one of those times.

So in the meantime I will say that I am going to the Outer Banks in two weeks! Wooooo! In case you are not from here, and most of you are not because I have the Google Analytics and I know ALL ABOUT YOU, the Outer Banks are the, you know, banks outside of North Carolina. You have to take a big pretty bridge to get over there. And it's all beachy and such. I went there with Sleeping Beauty two summers ago and Sandy and her husband this past summer. I brought Sandy to the beach! Bah!

6a00e54f9367fb8834014e8ab50dab970d-800wiAnyway, Sleeping Beauty just asked me if I want to join her, her new squishy baby and her man, who I don't know if he's squishy or not because I am not a terrible friend. Oh, and her dog Puck, who is decidedly also squishy. He is a Lab. Do you think he'll enjoy the beach at all? They're pretty indifferent to water.

Once when Talu was still a pup I took her to the lake when my mother still had a place there. And could she have been more iffy about water? She kind of…waded in with all the enthusiasm of Katy Perry in a library. Talu. Not a water dog.

I have no idea what Edsel would do around water. He has Irish setter in him. Do they like water? Anyway it's irrelevant because neither dog is coming along. They get to enjoy the Outer Daycare.

So that'll be fun. I haven't seen Sleeping Beauty since her baby shower last spring. I drove to DC for it, remember?

My gift was the green and purple bag. I got her all breastfeeding-related things, and a onsey that reads, "I suck." Adored myself.

Now I have to go. I am still overwhelmed with the freelance work, which is good, but I am working 9 or 10 hours a day and am still behind. After the 10th hour, your proofreading skillz are not what you'd call up to par.

Is anyone doing anything riveting this weekend?

  1. Cool beans, Zadge and Karen! Then you’ve met my high school friend! She’s front of house. Short brown hair with glasses. Very sweet. 2 degrees of separation.
Oh, I forgot to tell my interesting plans. We’re meeting friends for a late lunch at the Trolley Stop locavore restaurant and on to the St. Patrick’s parade downtown (Keith has to photograph it) with beers after at Silky Sullivan’s. Then Sunday, early lunch at Asian Palace for eggplant (yippee!) and then doing a little show at Saddle Creek for Dogs. Yes, Zali is probably going, too.
    Geeze. I guess I’m busy.

  2. Like LauraL I will be chaperoning a Girl Scout Cookie booth tomorrow. We are having an out of town guest for dinner tomorrow night and I’ll be cooking. Sunday we have church, another cookie booth and the mourning of the end of spring break.

  3. I spent a week surfing off the Cape Hatteras lighthouse back when I was in college. Great waves, nice weather. I recall sitting on my board on the first day, waiting for the next set, when a dorsal fin popped out of the water 20 feet away. My brain was screaming “SHARK!”
And then I saw it was Flipper.

  4. Letha, I bought new sneakers today, and when I got home, no one had removed the plastic thingy and I had to go back. GAH. says:

Flipper! Another great thing about the Outer Banks Beaches is that you always see lots of dolphin (is there an s required for the plural?). Take your coffee out there in the morning and it’s usually quite a show.

  7. Vet called with not good news. Pickle started spewing up green stuff again and still hasn’t passed the damn thing. I’m going to get drunkity drunk. He’s thinking he’ll have to do an ultrasound and surgery tomorrow – not guaranteeing that the thing he ate is removable. I’m upset. I just want my dog back!
Hope everybody has a great weekend and thanks for letting me vent.

  8. I so respect that you could prattle about things and don’t because you respect the privacy of those around you. I have a sister who cannot keep her mouth shut about anything…ever. Although, I am curious…
    Poor Pickles!

    Smoking mad?
    Smokey voice?

    Smoking in the Boyz Room?

  11. Working tonight. When I get off in the morning, I’m going to a few yard sales to try to furnish my new apartment. Then I’m going to the indie flea market in Kernersville. After sleeping all afternoon, I’ll be downtown for St Patrick’s day. Happy weekend to you!

  12. Started a 14-day cleanse this week so no cocktails for St. Pat’s. Which, in retrospect, was pretty poor planning. June, are you going to get an OBX window sticker? Sending happy thoughts for Pickle’s recovery. Have a good weekend everyone! (The exclamation point will make it so.)

  13. I’m going to see Mythbusters at the Wharton Center for Emma’s St. Patrick’s Day birthday!!
And you must eat at Dirty Dicks when in the Outer Banks. Not because the food is great, because really it’s a tacky chain restaurant, but because then you can get a shirt that says “I Got My Crabs At Dirty Dick’s” and we can be twins.

BUT, I have obsessively needed to tell you something JUNE! Have you heard of CryBaby mascara??? If yes, then could you pretend to be super excited? It’s this mascara that you go to a salon for them to put on and then it lasts for like 2 weeks. Can you imagine your latisse lashes AND semipermanent mascara?

  15. PJ just enjoyed a fabulous little thunderstorm that cleared all the pollen from the air without taking any trees down with it. says:

Have an OBX sticker on my dishwasher. And a North Carolina by Ferry sticker, too. OBX. Nice, but the SC beaches are 5 hours closer so they always win.
    Hi, lurking Sadie.
