Who knew that taking care of six cats and a dog would be time-consuming before work?
I hurriedly offer you photos of Edsel on his birthday, along with, you know, kittens. Click the title of this to see more, since the “continue reading” thing seems to be broken and THANKS, WordTypeBlogPad.
Happy birthday, Edsel.

Happy Birthday Edsel! I love your uniquely crooked “need an orthodontist” teeth. It certainly looks like he enjoyed the day. You are a good dog mom. Eating a burger and hanging out with kittens is an excellent way to celebrate a special day. Great pics!

Awww! So sweet. Good Eds. Mom, you’re doing a fantastic job, too.

P.S. 4-5 weeks is the messiest age for kittens without a (cat) mother.

OMG Eds licking the kitten’s whole head! Adorable.

Oh, if that is not the perfect Ed’s gift! (Adore him.) I’m guessing he’s also helping with the meal cleanup. He probably likes that better than burgers.
Pets: my cheap therapy. OK, forget the cheap part., but a great fixer. Love both posts.

You’re the best and this post is great! I hardly ever comment (sorry) because I am shy, but I have been reading you forever and enjoy your writing so very much!

Aw, thanks, Kim! Don’t be shy? Have you seen these other nincompoops on here?
{and that was the day June lost all the nincompoops}

June, you can’t get rid of this nincompoop that easily.

You’re such a good “everything” to Edsel. He really has a great life of being loved.
The photo of his nose to that kitten’s head is perfect, just perfect. The burger shots are excellent as well – I can never get my phone to capture the things I want like that, so I applaud you!

I knew Edsel would help clean up the messy kitties! Not kisses! A bath! Also, the picture of the one kitten perched on your knee looking directly into the camera is adorbs. That one needs to go on the shelter’s site and everyone will be queuing up to adopt.

May I just say how much I love Edsel? What a lovely companion he is. Thank you for sharing his birthday joy with us. Also, I want to comment on what for me, seemed to be a bit of (what some of my friends would call “woo woo”) regarding the timing of the call from the shelter, and the ensuing kitten happiness? I am often reminded by this or that to stop and thank whatever force is at work, for the save. The kittens are totally adorable, mess makers or not. Which by the way, I wonder what makes them messier than other kittens? I mean I know they’re not the first set of messy kittens, but I mean what differentiates those who are messy from those who aren’t? Anyway, a question for the ages I suppose. Lovely post, lovely June.

If I get more kittens, I realize they are born with their little personalities in tact. Some are very friendly. Some use the litter box right off the bat. Some eat in a messy fashion. Some drink from the bottle until they are 47 and have a mortgage.

Honestly kittens are the best birthday gift you could have possibly gotten him. Happy Birthday, Eds!

Eds looked like he had a great birthday, but I think the best present you gave him was that trip to Michigan (sans the elevator ride with that evil spawn).
I cannot imagine how tired you must be.

Happy Birthday Edsel! I am impressed that he eats the pickle – Paco spits it out if I don’t remember to remove it beforehand. Also, thanks for the burger idea as Paco’s birthday is July 4 (he becomes a teenager!) and I was going to get him a frosted dog cookie but I think I’ll add a McDonald’s cheeseburger to the gift table.
That picture of Edsel slurping on the kitten is so damn cute. I love how much he loves his foster siblings!

I still remember the next door neighbor’s dog grabbing a kitten in his mouth and shaking it to kill it. I was traumatized for years afterwards from seeing that. It always surprises me how gentle Eds is with those cute little tinies.

I cannot watch people introducing their dog to a puppy for the same reason. Any time I see an adult dog gently wagging its tail I’m over here going, ITS BRAIN IS GOING TO SNAP ANY SECOND NOW. Edsel has scarred me. And Lottie!

Whenever I go to McDonalds which can be often – my dog gets his own hamburger – no special occasion necessary – because he is spoiled rotten – he also gets his own donut at the coffee shop – now the cats they lose out because they do not ride in the car – I love the picture gallery Hamburger de Edsel it is art.

Wait wait wait. Didn’t you post a picture of yourself, at about Edsel’s age, REMOVING the offending pickle from your McDonalds burger? Yet you feed it to Edsel? (Don’t remind me what other little goodies dogs like to eat [Yule logs].) My weird dog? If we are having fries she will deign to come to the table and stand there politely until she scores a fry. ONE fry. Then she returns to her bed. We rarely give her table/human food, but once in a while we will. For example: a hamburger. She will eat around the bun and just eat the meat. This is also why she is the thinnest member of the family. (Well, Albert is also thin, but he’s one of those hateful beings with a functioning metabolism.)

I have a statue about 3′ tall in my backyard of St. Francis. As part of Third Wave Feminism I think someone should cast a similar statue of St. June with her placing her right hand on Edsel making the letter C from behind her legs to her side and a kitten perched on her head, her shoulder and her left arm in front of her.. Please on please. It would make me really happy.

Edsel had a great birthday. He even ate the pickle. THEN he got kittens! Great photos and those kittens are so cute. You are so compassionate to take those babies until they are ready to be adopted. They shouldn’t have problems finding homes.
